SEATTLE (March 8, 2021) – For the week of March 9 – March 13, the City of Seattle is opening vaccination appointments at its Community Testing and Vaccination Hubs in Rainier Beach and West Seattle to 65 and older adults who live in Seattle with a focus on residents in West Seattle, South Seattle, and Central Seattle. The City continues to work with community-based and faith-based organizations in a referral-based process to register and reserve appointments for Phase 1A and Phase 1B, Tier 1 eligible community members, with a focus on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, older adults, and immigrants and refugees.
The City is focusing on high risk adults 65 and older because in many neighborhoods throughout Seattle, vaccination rates of older adults are lagging behind the rest of King County. At 62.8%, Central Seattle has one of the lowest percentages countywide of people 65 and older who have been vaccinated, and at 61.6%, West Seattle and South Seattle have the lowest percentage countywide of people 75 and older who have been vaccinated. The City is prioritizing appointments for older Seattleites, understanding they are most at risk of hospitalization and death, and are likely to be left behind as new, statewide phases open up. Non-Seattle residents or residents under 65 should not register as appointments are reserved for Seattle residents at highest risk for COVID-19 who have yet to be vaccinated.

The Rainier Beach and West Seattle hubs are run by the Seattle Fire Department (SFD), and SFD personnel will be administering the vaccine. The Moderna and Pfizer vaccines will be provided at these hubs. Both are two-dose vaccines, and eligible residents will schedule their second dose during the process of scheduling their first dose.
