City of Seattle Announces Timeline for Safely Reopening Public-Facing Counters, Customer Service Centers, Libraries, and Other City Facilities

Seattle (August 11, 2021) – The City of Seattle is safely reopening in-person public services at City Service Counters and programming at recreation facilities across the City. With 83% of Seattle residents over 12 years of age with at least one dose, and residents starting to return to their workplaces in downtown and neighborhoods throughout Seattle, the City will begin providing an option for residents to safely access in-person services at several City of Seattle facilities.

“Our City facilities can safely reopen with masks and other precautions to allow residents and businesses to pay bills, address concerns in person, or visit our libraries, community centers, and other facilities,” said Mayor Durkan. “While we must continue to take the new, highly contagious Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus seriously, our City has made incredible progress towards limiting the spread of and severity of COVID in our communities – Seattle continues to have the lowest cases, hospitalizations and deaths of every major city. I want to once again recognize the thousands of City employees who have worked so hard over the past year to ensure that we were able to keep our communities safe and continue the important work of serving our residents and businesses.”

Residents are still required to follow current COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions established by State and local public health agencies. Masks are currently required in all City facilities, regardless of vaccination status. The City of Seattle will continue to work closely together with State and local public health agencies to monitor the number of new COVID-19 cases in our community due to the new, highly contagious Delta variant, and will adjust plans for counter reopening as necessary.

Seattle Parks and Recreation

Seattle Parks and Recreation will be ramping up public services and programming at recreation facilities across Seattle beginning September 7, 2021. This ramp up will include reopening most public pools (for lap swim, independent aquatic fitness and limited aquatic exercise classes), community center and environmental learning center registered programs (lifelong recreation, specialized programs, etc.), and teen programs that support academic success and enrichment. These programs are in addition to the preschool and childcare programs already operating in community centers.

To see our full ramp up schedule of pools and teen programs visit here. To be up to date about community center programs please visit our website, follow our Facebook page, or visit our registration page.

Please note that all facilities will continue to follow any current COVID-19 restrictions through the state, city or King County Public Health. The current guidance requires all staff and visitors to mask up upon entry regardless of vaccination status.
