First 100 People Vaccinated at the City’s Welcome Back Week Clinics Will Receive a Free Single-Day Ticket to the Day In • Day Out Festival at Seattle Center
SEATTLE (July 7, 2021) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan today announced that the City of Seattle is partnering with Daydream State – which produces the annual Capitol Hill Block Party – to offer COVID-19 vaccinations ahead of the Day In • Day Out festival at Seattle Center this September. The first 100 people who receive their first or second dose at the City’s Welcome Back Weeks pop-up vaccination clinics will receive a free single-day ticket to the Day In • Day Out music festival.
As of July 7, 80.7 percent of Seattle residents have begun the vaccination process, and 75 percent have completed their vaccination series. In Seattle, residents ages 12 – 29 lag significantly behind in vaccination rates. Only 65.7 percent of residents ages 12 – 19 have begun the vaccination process, and 59.3 percent are fully vaccinated. Additionally, 69.3 percent of residents ages 20 – 29 have begun their vaccination series, and 63.6 percent are fully vaccinated.
“Due to our incredible success on vaccinations, we can come together again and celebrate everything that makes Seattle the best city in the country, including our our concerts and festivals. Even with our widespread vaccinations, we see some groups lagging behind, including our young people. Our goal with this partnership is to inspire new young people to get vaccinated, protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19, and see a great show at Seattle Center,” said Mayor Durkan. “I encourage all those who still need their first or second dose of vaccine to visit our Welcome Back Weeks, get vaccinated, and get a free ticket to the Day In • Day Out music festival.”
“The safety and wellness of our community is critically important to our team, which is why we are partnering with the Seattle Fire Department to support this important health initiative to keep our city thriving,” said Daydream State event sponsorship director Kate Harris.
The first 100 people vaccinated at the City’s Welcome Back Week clinics will receive a free one-day ticket to the Day In • Day Out music festival. Seattle Fire Department (SFD) Welcome Back Week pop-up vaccination clinic dates and times are as follows:
- Hing Hay Park, 423 Maynard Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104
- Saturday, July 17, and Sunday, July 18, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Occidental Square, 117 S Washington St, Seattle, WA 98104
- Saturday, July 24, 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Westlake Park, 401 Pine St, Seattle, WA 98101
- Sunday, July 25, 12 – 8 p.m.
SFD will administer Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer at these clinics, and patients can get their first or second dose. If a patient is receiving their second dose, they’ll need to show proof of vaccination. If a patient receives their first dose of Pfizer, SFD will help them schedule their second dose on-site. “It is exciting to see our City come back alive with the return of events and festivals – all possible because Seattleites have done a great job at getting vaccinated,” said Seattle Fire Department Chief Harold D. Scoggins. ”But we know that our work is not done. We have a number of unvaccinated youth and young adults, and the risk of becoming ill from COVID remains real for them. Hopefully providing incentives such as free day passes to the Day In • Day Out festival will encourage them to take this important step.”
“I am very proud of the sheer number of people in Seattle that have been vaccinated. Nonetheless, we have a ways to go before we have reached all our residents. This initiative offers a great incentive for people to get vaccinated and at the same time get out, have some fun and enjoy a great show at Seattle Center,” said Seattle Center director Robert Nellams.
Seattle is the first major American city to vaccinate 70 percent of its residents and workers. To-date, the City has administered over 258,000 vaccinations. These vaccinations have occurred at 88 Adult Family Homes, 110 affordable housing buildings, 24 community partner pop-ups, two vulnerable youth-serving organizations, 20 city sporting events with MLS and MLB partners, local breweries, business districts, and the five City-affiliated fixed vaccination sites. Approximately 48 percent of those vaccinated by the City identify as BIPOC communities.

Mayor Durkan and the Downtown Seattle Association recently announced Welcome Back Weeks, which will occur from July 12 – 26 in downtown Seattle. Welcome Back Weeks are a key element of the City’s Road to Downtown Recovery plan, which seeks to bring workers, small businesses, and visitors back downtown.
