Seattle (July 15, 2019) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan commended the City Council’s 8-0 vote to confirm Bobby Humes, her nominee to serve as the permanent director of the Seattle Department of Human Resources (SDHR). Humes has served as the interim director of SDHR since February 2019.
“Bobby is a dedicated public servant with a commitment to advancing race and social justice, and delivering critical services for our City employees,” said Mayor Durkan. “Bobby is dedicated to creating a workplace where our City employees feel safe and respected, and can thrive and embrace opportunities for advancement. I am confident that Bobby will help our entire City build a workforce of the future that attracts and retains the best and brightest talent, and focuses on advancing racial equity and social justice in everything we do.”
“I’m excited to lead the
Seattle Department of Human Resources as we work with Department leaders, human
resources professionals and social justice practitioners across the city
enterprise to align our HR products, services, and supports to the benefit of
all employees. When we begin our HR conversations with racial equity and
inclusion, we make institutions better for everyone. I am confident that, if we
work together, we can create an atmosphere of trust as we continue
conversations around customer service and value,” said Humes.
