Mayor Jenny Durkan Applauds City Council for Confirming Saad Bashir as the City of Seattle’s Next Permanent Chief Technology Officer

SEATTLE (March 18, 2019) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan released the below statement following the successful 9-0 vote by Seattle City Council to confirm her nominee Saad Bashir to lead the Seattle Information Technology (IT) Department as the City of Seattle’s next Chief Technology Officer:

“We are so happy Saad Bashir will be our permanent Chief Technology Officer for the City of Seattle. An innovative tech approach by Seattle IT will be critical to build a city of the future. It is key to the continued functioning of internal city operations, the security of personal information and critical infrastructure, and helping deliver services that Seattle residents and businesses rely on.

“With deep experience in both the public and private sectors, Saad is a highly respected expert in digital modernization, network operations and project management who has a proven track record of delivering cost-effective and innovative solutions.

“We knew that finding a new CTO for the City of Seattle wouldn’t be easy. We were in search of a visionary leader with experience in technology, technical engineering and operations, and digital equity. I’m confident that Saad is that leader.

“Saad has already been hard at work meeting with the various divisions within IT to identify key objectives and metrics to help improve internal processes and customer service opportunities within the City.

“I’m confident that under Saad’s leadership, Seattle IT will become an IT department that can serve as a model to other cities across the country.”
