Seattle (July 31) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan today applauded the decision by a Seattle federal judge to place a temporary restraining order blocking the current administration’s proposal to allow the release of downloadable blueprints for 3D-printed guns. On Monday, Mayor Durkan stood with Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson in support of the multistate lawsuit he is leading the block the administration’s action.
“Creating an unlicensed gun with a 3D printer should not be a ‘do-it-yourself’ download available to anyone. As a former federal prosecutor, I know untraceable and unregulated 3D-printed guns present a real danger to the residents of Seattle,” said Mayor Durkan. “Because of Attorney General Ferguson’s lawsuit, a federal judge has put this administration’s dangerous plan on hold and has taken a responsible step to protect law enforcement, public safety, and our national security.”
