SEATTLE (December 12, 2017) – Mayor Jenny A. Durkan issued the following statement after the death of Seattle native and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee:
“Mayor Ed Lee has a long history of breaking barriers – he was the first member of his family to attend college then became the first Asian American to lead San Francisco. He was a true public servant who championed civil rights. When I was elected, he was the first Mayor to reach out to me. His enthusiasm for making his city and our world better were inspiring. In Seattle, we were fortunate to count him as our own as well and his loss is a loss for Seattle. From his hometown, our city sends our condolences to Ed’s friends, family, and colleagues as well as the residents of San Francisco – the city he loved so dearly.”
